André S Clements

André S Clements is an artist who tries not to use words like ‘post-digital-painterly-abstraction’ to describe the interaction between gestural mark-making and calculation that permeates much of his recent work.

André holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (1995) from the University of Pretoria, where he was impacted by many influences including Carl Jeppe, Diane Victor, and the German Bauhaus tradition. With a desire to explore and learn as widely as possible André has studied in fields as diverse as industrial psychology and computer science, (practice of the latter being the most prominent vector in his career). Since 2004 André has been increasingly focused on his art. The David Krut organization, artists like Nathaniel Stern, and some key private collectors have provided invaluable stimulation and support for his artistic development.
