Balance or Trangression came as a reaction to the obsession with legitimacy / ownership in Art. A reluctant recognition of the aesthetic of the past, with all their ‘ism’s’, which tends to catapult Pierre Mathieu’s art into a realm of self exploration, validating an almost constant transgression of the out-door into the studio. In the spirit of Jean Dubuffet, Pablo Picasso, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mathieu produces an apparent dis-location of scale and narrative.
