Res Gallery’s new exhibition, Ánima, is a body of work that is reflective of life and death. The exhibition combines photography and drawings by artists Fernando Maquieira and Pascual Tarazona. A number of concepts related to beginnings and endings are dealt with within this project: someone kills an animal, the taxidermist sensationalizes the life, the photographer / artist captures the appearance of life, and the spectator contemplates the image, already a moment in the past. The moment has ceased: it is dead. The process of life and death is seen through mankind’s relationship to power over the animal, and vice versa. Today, however, humans fight to control animal species every day. History books are, perhaps, the only traces left to remind us, urban people, that we were once vulnerable against them. |
